Volunteer: Saturday Gardener

Position Overview

The Port Phillip EcoCentre maintains several gardens around the EcoHouse for community building, educational, commercial and display purposes. EcoCentre Gardeners are responsible for maintaining the EcoCentre gardens by helping to keep them in working order and presentable to visitors. The position of EcoCentre Gardener is an unpaid volunteer role. Gardeners are expected to participate as regularly as possible for continuity in the garden.

General tasks:

  • Hand watering seedlings and container gardens
  • Turning compost
  • Managing the worm farms
  • Pruning and mulching (if trained by Garden Coordinator)
  • Propagating and seed saving
  • Planting and digging
  • Fertilising
  • Harvesting
  • Weeding
  • Sweeping and raking of paths and picking up rubbish
  • Light maintenance of the EcoCentre grounds where necessary
  • Landscaping

Requirements

All volunteers must have a valid Working With Children Check, and must attend a volunteer induction

Expected hours are 10am - 12pm on fortnightly Saturdays.
