PestWatch Point Cooke 23

Register your interest to join the Port Phillip Baykeeper, Neil Blake OAM, to look for Asian shore crabs and European Green crabs on Saturday, 10 June at 12pm.

Learn how to identify these invasive marine pests and how to tell them apart from our native crabs. We will explore the rock reef at low tide, so wear closed-toed shoes and bring gloves, as crabs can be pinchy!

This crab ramble is fun for all ages. No snorkelling or swimming necessary! No dogs allowed, as we will be in the marine sanctuary.

Location:  We meet at Beaumaris Bay Fossil Beach, next to Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron in Beaumaris. Meet on the grassy area next to Boat Ramp, adjacent to BMYC Building.

Preparation: Please watch the marine pest ID webinar if you did not previously attend training, so you know what the Asian shore crabs look like via this Zoom recording, using passcode SQ$6yJ9V.

What to bring:  Wear proper footwear: reef shoes or other close-toed shoes that can get wet. No thongs or bare feet. Bring gloves! Male Asian shore crabs have a strong pinch. Sun protection: sunscreen, hat, long sleeves, wind jacket, reusable water bottle.

Parking: There is unlimited free parking in Ray St, Cromer St, and Beach Rd (avoid "No Stopping" zones). You cannot park down at Fossil Beach in the BMYS. Park, carefully cross Beach Rd and walk down the BMYS driveway.

This event is shore-based only; we don't go into the water. All ages welcome! Children need to be under the supervision of an adult.
