Join us for this event and help us collect data that contributes to healthier waterways and habitats for our unique biodiversity.
We know street litter and microplastic pollution poses a growing threat to our environment and ourselves. In 2020, our Clean Bay Blueprint study showed Melbourne’s microplastic pollution was skyrocketing up to 400% year-to-year – and this data helped influence new laws like bans on single use plastic and a container deposit scheme. Our current study, Plastic Free Bay aims to build on the data from the Clean Bay Blueprint to figure out how these new initiatives have changed pollution levels in our waterways. We can use this information to update decision makers about what is working best for our bay. We need your help to complete the final samples taken from our waterways!
Will you join us?
We need your help to tackle microplastics pollution. We are seeking 8 keen volunteers to join our Microplastics Research Team for our afternoon session on Wednesday March 12th (link to the afternoon event can be found here). Volunteers will help us sort through our final river trawl samples and remove microplastics for further analysis.
No prior experience necessary! Our friendly team leaders will teach you everything you need to know. (And there will be snacks.) Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes and BYO water bottle. Gloves and other equipment is provided.
Registration is essential so please let us know you are coming via the registration button at the bottom of the event page.
Many thanks to the Victorian Government and local Councils for funding this project, and to our collaborators at Pipe Management Australia and the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.
