Our Community Garden
The EcoCentre Community Garden

Our approach
The EcoCentre community garden is a shared community garden. In other words its one BIG plot shared among many garden lovers. It is also an educational garden with a wide range of plants and signs that have information, with a high focus on sustainable gardening practices. It is the perfect place for a beginner to start to learn how to grow food. There is an overall plan to follow and experimentation, within the plan's guidelines, is very much encouraged.
This model has many benefits:
being involved in community activity, creating self-resiliance through sharing knowledge and skills and ultimately leading the way in food security
learning the latest in urban agriculture technology and
harvesting and eating a great variety of food!
Anyone can get involved but must subscribe as a garden volunteer (free) and become a member of the EcoCentre (Green Membership $30 a year) and are expected that they put in time regularly to provide continuity.
Gardening every Sunday
Come to a gardening session every Sunday from 9am – apx. 1pm and you will be introduced to the GARDEN TEAM who will show you the ropes and share some skills. No knowledge neccessary. There is plenty of opportunity to get your hands dirty and “learning by doing” is how we do it here. Tasks are dependent on seasonal activities, which can be anything from planting, pest management, composting, landscaping or harvesting. When you get there, look out for the white A-frame task board. Workshops are also held as per task or upon request!
As an addition, we are fortunate to be donated an organic vegie box from 'Pure Organics' and combined with freshly picked produce from our garden its possible to cook up a storm! A donation is much appreciated. However, as a volunteer you are entitled to harvest from the garden!
There are also opportunities for leadership roles within the GARDEN TEAM. Leadership roles require you to take responsibility for a functional area. Such areas include compost, worm farms, propagating, seed saving, pest control, herbs, irrigation, fruit trees, natives, even garden art and music! You can delegate the work to others if you need help over time but you take responsibility for that area and report to the garden co-ordinator.
Garden Gossip with Kids!
Play in the sand pit, catch a bug, plant a plant or build a teepee! Bring your family and meet other like-minded families and share seasonal skills through the means of garden play!
One Sunday each month 10am-12:30pm at the EcoCentre. Check Events Calender for upcoming activities.
